Description

Essay 1 Explication: Explicate the problem of cruelty in relation to moral relativism.  How can we pursue hospitality or moral values (v. vital values) to overcome our crueler tendencies as humans if we remain committed to moral relativism (explicitly or implicitly)?  How might Lengbeyer and Rachels offer us solutions?  You need TWO course reading sources.  Utilize the works of Hallie and/or Todorov and either Lengbeyer or Rachels (you may also use Haidt if you wish).  Textual evidence is quotations from the readings with page numbers.  That is essential for supporting your ideas—you need approximately 2 quotations per page using proper MLA style citation for both paraphrase (your own words of the text) and quotation including AUTHOR name & page of quote: (Hallie 2) or (Rachels 52).  Review Essay Guidelines on course site to understand assessment criteria.  No works doro cited page needed.  See Purdue OWL for guidance:
