Week 1: Intro to Cultural Geography
Description
After reviewing my post and the source I’ve provided, respond to me with which theme you are most interested to learn about and why. Then post your own question (if you have not already) about an aspect of Cultural/Human Geography you would like to have answered. Remember to respond to two of your classmates as well.
1/ the postWhich of the five themes of geography is the most important? Why do you think so?
The five themes of geography are location, place, human/environment interaction, movement, and regions. While all of these are important to understanding human geography, in my opinion, with regards to the study of geopolitics and cultural studies, place and movement are the most important themes. This is because place is essential to establishing connections between populations and the spaces they inhabit which in turn helps to develop local cultures. And places are formed largely by migration movements and the accessibility/connectivity of spaces in order to become identified with those particular cultures which leads to global interconnectedness and interdependence. After reviewing the source I’ve provided, respond to me with which theme you are most interested to learn about and why. Then post your own question (if you have not already) about an aspect of Cultural/Human Geography you would like to have answered.
2/ my question with source???
3/ response 1/ How does your environment and culture shape the way you act and think?
I would like to know how big of a part environmental and cultural factors play in how we act. I have always thought that family is the biggest contribution to how we behave, but recently I have been asking myself if where we live or go to school can have more of an effect on us than our own family. Do your friends have more influence on you than your parents? Does living in a bad neighborhood make you more likely to turn “bad.”? These are the questions I have about how your culture and environment can shape the way you act and think.
4/response 2/ How does the relative location of a place affect its economic and cultural development?
The location of a country is a key factor influencing its economy. Among the most important factors are climate, proximity to major markets, and the presence of diverse tourist attractions. Favorable climates can support fertile land, enabling investment in agriculture and exports to other countries. Proximity to major markets can reduce transportation costs and facilitate the provision of services. Additionally, diverse tourist attractions can enhance a country’s economy by making it an attractive destination, thereby creating opportunities in the hospitality and services.
