IN THE PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE WHAT IS GAINED BY ARTISTS ADOPTING THE LENS OF THE HISTORIAN, AND THE HISTORIAN ADOPTING THE LENS OF THE ARTIST

The Research Should: locate 2 “real world objects” that your discussion can revolve around. 

The Essay Should: make 2 points, (each using an object) then conclude (review the high scoring exemplar to get a sense of this!) Must show the discussion has a sustained focus on the title and is linked effectively to areas of knowledge. Arguments are clear, coherent and effectively supported by specific examples. The implications of arguments are considered. There is clear awareness and evaluation of different points of view.

attached i have added an in class example.  Do not use it, it’s to give an understanding of the kind of thinking this essay requires to capture. The concept is chairs.  When you look at it is it looks like a chair, but the art installation is called 3 chairs.  There is a photo of a chair, physical chair and the word chair.  some people would say that is not art, but what makes art art?  what makes any of these installations of a chair less than a chair.  They are all chairs but it’s based off of our truth and what we defin as a society as a chair.  But who is to say any of the 3 installations are different from each other when they are all chairs but not at the same time. Just as art it can be conceptualized as our truth. Knowledge is forever going.  What knowledge is true and what is not.
