criminal justice
Description
Lex talionis is often translated as law of retaliation. It’s best known by the phrase “an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”. The concept dictates that the punishment for a crime should be equivalent to the harm inflicted. A example will be if someone vandalizes another person’s car. By applying lex talionis strictly, the persons car would be subjected to the same level of damage as retribution.
I believe in the concept of lex talionis. Reason why I believe in it because it resonated with human desire for fairness. Also seeing the wrongdoers experience consequences that relates to their actions. The punishment can act as a strong deterrent against committing a crime in the first place. I think that knowing that the perpetrator experienced a similar suffering it can provide a sense of closure and justice.
