Psychology Discussion

Description

As we examine neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, it is important to consider the various concepts we’ve learned throughout this course how they might interact to increase risk or vulnerability to these disorders. As you read through your Learning Resources, consider things like chronic stress, genetics, sleep, social behavior, emotions, brain growth and development, sex and gender, etc. and how they might influence at least one of the disorders we will examine in this unit.

  1. Choose a neurodegenerative disorder and another concept we’ve covered in this class. Explain how these two things are connected or are hypothesized to be connected. Cite peer-reviewed research to support your answer.

Then

  1. Choose a psychiatric disorder and do the same thing – explain how this disorder and the concept/process/aspect of neurophysiology you learned in class are connected or are hypothesized to be connected. Cite a relevant source in support.

Peer Engagement:

Remember to circle back and substantively respond to two classmates by the due date specified in the syllabus. Your peer engagement posts must go beyond summarizing and praising. To aid you in this endeavor, incorporate one or more of the following lines of thinking in your peer engagement posts, ensuring both a hearty, meaningful conversation and that your work meets criteria for substance and depth:

  • Follow up with your peer’s neurodegenerative disorder selection. Offer another concept you learned about throughout this course and integrate that influence with the one your peer offered.
  • Follow up with your peer’s psychiatric disorder selection. Offer another concept you learned about throughout this course and integrate that influence with the one your peer offered.
  • Might you have personal insights to share regarding the disorder your peer selected and be in a position to speak to their thoughts from your experience?
