Description

This short essay challenges your critical thinking skills by applying course topics to a published, scholarly paper. This exercise will allow you to engage a published anthropological discussion by using course materials and your own interpretations. One scholarly article, referenced below, has been selected and posted to D2L. Please read this brief article carefully and respond to the associated questions in essay format. All responses must be no fewer than two, but no longer than three, full, double spaced pages using 12 point Times New Roman font. Essays that exceed the three-page maximum will receive a grade of zero. This is a short paper, so please use complete sentences and paragraphs to address, but not repeat, the questions presented below. Do not number or bullet-point your responses.

Your grade will be determined based on your ability to adequately address each of the questions presented below. Improper grammar and spelling can lead to a maximum loss of three points. Be sure to include proper citations, including in-text citations for all quoted and/or paraphrased content. You must also include a works cited immediately after the last paragraph, but not necessarily on a separate page. All citations and works cited must follow SAA (Society for American Archaeology) style guidelines. Consult the SAA Citation and Bibliography Style Guide posted in the Essay 1 Instructions folder on D2L. You are only allowed to use this article and your lecture notes as sources to cite in your paper. Plagiarism will be reported to the Dean of Students and will result in a maximum penalty of a zero on the assignment.

Please submit your paper as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file via the Assignments tab in our course page on D2L. NOTE: .pages files will not be accepted. All papers must be uploaded prior to 11:59 pm on the due date posted in the D2L module. This short essay is worth a total of 25 points. Late submissions, submissions using formats not accepted by D2L or Turnitin, and printed papers will not be accepted. The paper that you submit to D2L is the paper that will be graded; updated versions emailed to me will not be graded.
