Community Teaching Project about smoking to adolescence

This is a teaching project paper. The topic is educating adolescence population in Miami, FL about smoking effects on health and strategies to smoking cessation. The student will outline a community health plan and health education lesson plan.

The steps are outlined below:

– Assessment: Assess a targeted population in your community (adolescence in Miami, FL). This is done by researching health data for your population. Make sure you select and define your community by noting the history of your community.

– Perform a Literature Review of the project.

– Develop goals and objectives for the presentation and an Evaluation tool. (objective: educate adolescents about the risks of smoking and smoking cessation strategies. Evaluation tool: pre-test, and post-test evaluation)

– Capture a picture of your selected community. What are the vital statistics of your community? Think about socioeconomic statistics. What are the leading causes of death? What illnesses or diseases are present in your community? Do citizens in your community have easy access to primary care? What are the most prevalent health problems in your community? (This information should be part of the Literature Review)

– Formulate a community health nursing diagnosis related to this health need, based on this data, what are the strengths and needs of your community?

– Plan community intervention. Ask yourself “Will this project have a positive health impact in the designated population? If so, how do you know?”

– Evaluation: How would you evaluate your intervention? (pre-test and post-test)

The written outline should include:

Topic.
Rationale for choosing the topic.
Introduction to the problem.
At least one goal.
At least three behavioral objectives
Bloom’s Taxonomy: Cognitive, psychomotor & Affective domain

Teaching strategies (explain a videotaped educational session will be made about smoking in adolescence)
Evaluation method/tool (a pre-test and post-test will be made to assess their knowledge before and after the educational session)
Conclusion.
References (at least 4-6 relevant and current evidence-based peer reviewed articles)
