Here is what the Assignment I should do:

Genre Analysis is technique that you can use to study the common practices, conventions, and expectations that certain type of writing has. Genres often reflect certain values or beliefs that the group that writes that genre share. For example, the genre of a resume (with its short bullet points) reflects the American business culture that time is money — so just give us the bullet points. Or, the poem with its imagery, metaphors, and beautiful sounds reflects the community of poets/readers of poetry that value reflection, beauty, and artistic language. Each one of these genres has conventions that make them recognizable to the reader. We can easily look at these types of writing (even without reading them) and know what they are by their features- “that is a resume/poem.”

For this assignment, we will practice the technique of analysis. We will look at the genre of testimony and see what conventions are found in each. You will conduct your own genre analysis on the genre of personal testimony. You may use the collection of sample testimonies given for the reading this week or explore the “testimonies” section of Christianity Today to collect your own.

Next, follow the steps for genre analysis presented in this week’s reading. https://biola.instructure.com/images/preview.png Write a page or two of notes and analysis as you read the samples, keeping in mind how you might write in this genre in the future or improve your writing in a version you already have.

This assignment should be 4 pages double spaced. You do not need works cited page. You will be graded on your ability to meet outcome 1.
