Read Chapter 1 and 2 then answer each question separately. Make sure you answer with paragraphs.
What is it about culture that makes it feel so stable and inevitable? Is it? How can we understand different ways of ‘being in’ the world through looking at different cultures around the world?
1. What is culture? Can you list the key elements? How does this differ from how you’ve heard others define culture in anthropology?
2. What is cultural appropriation? Can anyone ‘own’ a culture to the exclusion of others? What are some ways that we can appreciate other cultures without appropriating those cultures?
