For your first essay, you will choose an issue that affects Youngstown/ Steubenville/The Valley. It could be any of the following issues, OR something that you decide on your own.

-education
-poor roads
-poverty
-working class family structure
-homelessness
-hunger
-troubled youth
-any issue that you have noticed.

In this essay, you will discuss the issue that you have chosen and how it has impacted The Valley. You also need to include a paragraph where you discuss how YOU could impact this issue positively. That could be volunteering, donating, getting involved with a non-profit, etc. This paper REQUIRES research. You will have to research your issue and how you could help.

This essay will be graded and I will provide a grading rubric. You will be able to see exactly what is required for this paper. This paper will be graded twice. If you are not happy with the 1st grade you receive, you will have a chance to revise your paper for a better grade. Plan on revising.
