Informative Career Essay

Description

Students will be required to write an informative essay on a topic related to their desired career path. It is best to select a topic on something that interests you. Choose something you would like to know more about concerning your career path. This will make your research more interesting and enjoyable for you AND your end product (the essay) more interesting to your reader as well. Be sure to select a topic in which you can include (“report on”) three specific points of information (for your three body paragraphs).
Suggested Career Essay Topics (to be posted ASAP!)
Word Count Requirement: 1000-1500 words *In general, the word count total is shown in most all word processing windows in the status bars at the bottom of the window.
MLA style with heading at the top of the page Sample MLA formatted essay
Works Cited page including documentation of 3 sources.
In-text citations of online sources (one for each point) – do not use Wikipedia or personal blogs – THREE in-text citations minimum (one for each point)
No block quotes (direct quotes that are at least 4 lines or longer).
Do your best to keep your directly quoted information less than 25% of your essay. This means that at least 75% of your essay must be in your own words.
12-point Times New Roman font (standard MLA font)
First person “I” or Third person allowed (no second person “you” or “your”)
NO CONTRACTIONS
double space entire document
at least five paragraphs with a clear thesis, introduction, and conclusion.
paragraphs should be at least five sentences in length
Page margins must be 1″ on all sides
No title page is necessary for this essay. Be sure to add the proper header information on the first page.
Include your last name and page numbers in the upper right corner of all pages.
Be sure to save your essay as a .doc, .docx, or .PDF.

Assessment:

You will be graded based on your thesis, organization, transitions, explanations and discussion, description, and major grammatical errors. I will also check your citations and Works Cited page. All essays will be checked by the Turnitin plagiarism software as well.
