How does digital technology affect young Americans’ ability to write? Does the use of texting, social media, emojis, or computers more generally, improve or degrade young Americans’ ability to communicate through writing?
For this assignment you will confine your response to three paragraphs with the following structure:
An introduction where you introduce the topic, put it in context so the readers know why they should care, and then make a specific assertion that the use of digital technology is either improving or degrading young Americans’ ability to communicate in writing.
A body paragraph where you go into detail about one specific way the use of digital technology is affecting young people’s writing abilities. In this paragraph your job is to convince the reader of your assertion by providing evidence and analysis. For example, arguing that Twitter’s character limit forces writers to boil their ideas down, so the technological element of the character limit results in better writing.
A conclusion where you return to emphasize the importance of your topic, and why the reader should care. Don’t spend any time repeating your argument, instead place it in context.
