Introduction

Each student will research and interview a leader of his/her choice with professor permission. This assignment is meant to allow you the opportunity to network and learn from a successful leader. You cannot select an immediate supervisor or a family member. Your leader choice with a brief, one paragraph reason why you selected the leader is required in week 2 to allow time to prepare for the interview and complete the assignment.

Activity Instructions

Consider someone you’ve always wanted to meet or who might someday become a mentor to you. Please note that successful leaders’ schedules are busy so don’t wait until the last minute to get approval. Your analysis of the leader and the leader’s style will be summarized in a paper. Contents should include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. An introduction to include a description of the leader, the leader’s background, experiences, and current position. Background information should include education, family, professional/career path.Do not make this section the majority of the paper.

2. Why you selected this person as your subject and how she/he exemplifies leadership as described in our text.

3. An analysis of the leader’s style and behaviors based on our text and course content.This section should be the most involved and include in-text citations.

4. A discussion of the leader’s effectiveness in his/her current position. What contributes to the success or failure in this position?

Your paper should be about 4 to 6 pages (minimum) but no more than 8 pages, not including a cover page, should follow APA style and written from a first-person perspective. Be sure to use headers for this assignment. Thispaper should be a synopsis of your interview, not a summary or outlining of the questions and answers provided. The following criteria will be used to grade your project:

• Breadth of coverage

• Direct connections to the course via in-text citations

• Evidence of analysis and understanding of the course content

• Organization, completeness, grammar and writing style and coherence of the materials presented.

Writing Requirements (APA format)

• 4-6 pages (approx. 300 words per page), not including title page or references page

• 1-inch margins

• Double spaced

• 12-point Times New Roman font

• Title page with topic and name of student

• References page (minimum of 5 resources)

Grading will be based on the Week 4 Leadership Interview Rubric.
