Description

Write an academic essay of 800 to 1,000 words to analyse how your selected news article communicated a scientific finding/discovery/breakthrough/concept effectively. You can approach the task in the following steps:

???Select a recent popular science news article related to the topic of climate change. Note that the article should not merely report on the actions taken to tackle climate change (such as reducing emissions or funding for fossil fuel companies… etc).

???Craft an argument to answer the question: Why do you think the authors/ speakers have chosen to communicate this piece of scientific knowledge in this particular way? 

???Focus your argument on the TWO most prominent strategies employed in the text to communicate science effectively. Select relevant and appropriate examples to illustrate these strategies (e.g. use of inclusive pronouns, references to the reader, examples from daily life).
You are encouraged to produce a deeper analysis than a touch-and-go listing of strategies.
Make use of the ‘Framework of Science Communication Strategies’ covered in Week 3’s seminar.

???Examine the effects that these particular strategies have on the audience and why they were effective.

???Reflect on how the author(s) have drawn relevance of the reported topic to the society or the world. Consider how the authors’ use of strategies revealed who they think their audiences are and the purposes of their communication.
