Written assignmentPracticalities:This individual essay assignment is worth 20% of the final grade. It is due on November 14th, 2024. The assignment should be submitted electronically through Nexus. Your paper should be a word document (Microsoft word or PDF), 1.5 spaced, in 12-point type, Times New Roman or Arial font, and no more than 3 pages (excluding references). A penalty for late submissions will be 5% per day, including weekends and holidays. Please name your submitted file on Nexus using your last name followed by your student ID, separated by an underscore (e.g., Desforges_12345678.doc). Your submitted document must also contain a title page with relevant information (title, name, student ID, course number, instructor name, etc.) and references, which do not count toward to page limit.Assignment details:Your assignment is to write an original research report on the dominant threats facing a Canadian endangered/threatened species of your choosing. You will select a Canadian species listed under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) as special concern, threatened or endangered (plant or animal). Relevant references to find species include the SARA site (https://www.canada.ca/en/environment-climate-change/services/species-risk-public-registry.html) and associated COSEWIC assessment reports.The purpose of this assignment is to critically evaluate the dominant threats facing your chosen species and relate those threats to species-specific traits using peer-reviewed scientific literature. Your report will be structured into three separate sections that should be clearly delineated.Species informationDescribe your species and the specific population you selectedDescribe relevant life history traitsDominant threatsDescribe the dominant threats facing your species/population in rank order (most important to least important)How do these threats directly affect your species?Risk mitigationWhat mitigation/management strategies can be/have been used to protect your species? For this reason, you are required to include at least five peer-reviewed scholarly articles in your research paper. You are not to use informal blogs, newsletters, or other similar sources. Other acceptable sources include websites for government agencies or professional organizations, but these do not count towards the five peer reviewed articles.
