final research project (20th century)

Description

For this assignment, I’m essentially connecting my past 4 projects and making them flow together and connect. I will include my past research projects below. My main/overall topic of this project will be advancements made in the 20th century in health care. I started my first project with the spanish flu, and then public health reforms, national health service act, and finally connecting those with the alma-ata declaration and WHO’s. The rubric will also be attached.

From Instructor:

“Now you get to bring it all together and produce your final research project that demonstrates your research skills and your talent at telling a story and placing it in historical context. Use all the resources you have been using and build a cohesive story. We expect you to use any source we have introduced you to. The library collections, online archives, family documents – all this provides context and evidence for your research. Films, graphic novels, even music provides context to your research.”

Whatever you have been researching, make sure your final project includes:

1: a clear topic (that is not US history) and its importance to the 20th C. if it is your family story – then you state the context in which this story unfolds: is it a story of migration? Is it a story of wartime or economic relocation? Is it a story of survival? Is it a bit of all of that? If you are writing about technological innovation or development, legal changes, political issues and pacts, whatever your topic, place into the context of the 20th century – review the historical context based on research you have done using material provided by the class or online material (vetted by a librarian or your TA).

1.a) make a timeline – this is a very helpful way to check that you are following a chronological structure

1.b) use the timeline to develop the narrative of your essay

2: define your research and support it with evidence:

  • if you are doing a project about your family, make sure this is not just a collection of memories or conversations. Place them in context. Explain the political context, research how the international community responded and what responsibility foreign actors may have had. Make sure to corroborate diary entries and personal conversations – historical almanacs can tell you what the weather was on any given day in most parts of the world, newspaper can contradict personal points of view – use the sources at your disposal to place your family history in a wider context.
  • if you are researching a particular topic/person in the 20th Century: frame your research question – what are you researching and why, what sources are you using, what evidence do you rely on? Who has already researched this? How does understanding the issue historically impact your understanding of it?

Basic requirements of final report (if written):

  • use storymaps
  • title, introduction that tells the reader what to expect, as many sections as needed to complete research, conclusion
  • in-text citations & bibliography (if audio/visual project, include script)
  • cannot be a US history paper

Project 2: https://arcg.is/0zj0f0

Project 3: https://arcg.is/1CbObv0

I would essentially want a research project that talks about each decade in the 20th century. The main things to focus on are the Spanish Flu and explain how it led to public health reforms, and then the national health service act, and then finally the alma-ata declaration. An explanation of each topic and its relation to each other and how it developed in the 20th century is necessary. Please cite everything mla format.
