Description

In this week’s reading, we discussed details about deserts and dune shapes. For your Journal entry, please write a Journal of at least two pages in length (single spaced). Include a map showing the location of the desert along with the geologic age (BOTH – the geologic age of the surrounding rock and the age of the desert) and type of dunes that are present. I am more interested in the geology than the biology, life, culture etc.

Select one of the below deserts of the World and answer the following:

1. Describe the location, countrie(s), size, topography, dune types and size of the dunes, how long have these dunes been here?, has the area always been a desert? If not, why do you think it became one? Also take note of the present & past climate, how are these sandstones different from sandstones from a stream (cross-bedding, sorting, ripples, mineral grains etc), is this a typical desert? why or why not, and make sure to include maps/photos you feel would support your summary.
