Your answers have to be structured around an introduction, a body, and a conclusion and be written using full sentences. Bullet points are not allowed. You do not need to do outside research to answer the questions. While there is no word limit, the minimum length per essay should be one page.

Grading Criteria:

Your essays will be graded based on the rubric found in the course syllabus with the following criteria in mind: 1) format and organisation (is the essay well-written, correctly referenced and clear), 2) knowledge and evidence (how much information are you using/taking from the lectures and readings), and 3) analysis (how well do you provide a sound analysis to the question at hand).

Questions:

Section A

1. Considering the major theories of International Relations (realism, liberalism and constructivism), how does each explain patterns of conflict and cooperation? Provide examples to support your discussion.

Section B

1. The balance between multilateralism and state sovereignty remains a contentious issue.
   Analyse how international organisations negotiate this balance and the implications for global governance.
2. Reflect on the significance of humanitarian and environmental challenges in the realm of international relations. How do these challenges influence state policies and international cooperation in addressing global issues?
3. Discuss the challenges posed by terrorism to global security and diplomacy. How have states and international organisations responded to these challenges, and what are the implications of their actions for global governance?
