Case Study
Description
Each analysis is worth 25 points for a total of 200 points. The student is to choose a topic from the designated topic for that week (see Case Study Analyses overview). The study is to: (1) Write a brief summary of the case; (2) Analyze and critique the case and (3) Draw his/her/their own conclusion. Each analysis should be roughly one page, or about 500-700 words.
Write a brief summary of the case:
o Determine the situation and problem, need for PR activities, what the
organization did, and what the outcomes were, etc.
• Analyze and critique the case:
o Determine whether the organization’s actions were effective or problematic or
somewhere in-between with clear explanation as to why. You may compare the
case to other cases or apply theories and best practices discussed to do your
analysis.
• Draw your own conclusions:
o Determine whether this case is a good benchmark for developing an excellent
campaign or what ought to be adjusted to make it so.
*Each analysis (eight analyses) should be roughly one page, or about 500 – 700 words
Assignment Submission
Students pick one case of Topic from Swann (2020) (see schedule below). An
older version of the textbook is NOT acceptable.
After a case study is selected, each student will write and submit an individual (1) brief
summary of the case, (2) an analysis and a critique of the case, and (3) conclusions.
(1) In the summary provide enough information about the case, including what an
organization’s problem and situation was, why the organization needed PR
activities, and what the organization did, etc.
(2) In the analysis and critique, discuss whether the organization did a good or bad
job. In this part, you can compare the case to other case(s) and apply any
theories you have learned in this class or other classes.
(3) In the conclusion, determine whether the case is good to use as a benchmark as
an excellent campaign.
All three parts are important.
Among 8 topics, students will choose a case from the 8 topics. Each analysis should
be between 500-700 words. Due dates are posted in the schedule below.
