According to authors Thill & Bovee, culture is really a shared system of symbols, beliefs, attitudes, values, expectations and norms for behavior. It could additionally include heroes, heroines, language, traditions, rituals, arts and customs.

And keep in mind that this discussion and assignment will hopefully contribute to our cultural competency. This is the ability to understand and appreciate the cultural differences that exist and affect communication. We ideally want to be able to adjust one’s communication style to ensure that our communication messages across cultural boundaries are successful.
