Instructions
  • Key Concepts and Skills in COM 121:
    Begin by reflecting on the key concepts and skills you have acquired throughout this course. Consider topics such as perception, verbal and nonverbal communication, cultural influences on communication, or public speaking. Briefly explain each topic and discuss what stood out to you in each area.
  • Employers’ Expectations:
    In this sub-point, focus specifically on what employers are looking for in the people they hire. Conduct research to explore employer expectations and also check job postings. Answer the following questions:
    • Communication Skills: What communication skills do employers prioritize, such as clarity, conciseness, or the ability to tailor messages for different audiences?
    • Presentation Skills: How important is the ability to deliver structured and engaging presentations? What do employers expect from candidates in terms of presentation abilities?
    • Interpersonal Communication: How do employers view the importance of interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and teamwork?
  • Use a minimum of 3 credible, reliable, and up-to-date sources to support your analysis of employer expectations.
  • Compare/Contrast Learning with Employer Expectations:
    After reviewing the key concepts/skills in the course and discussing employer expectations, compare and contrast your learning with these expectations. Consider the following:
    • Alignment: Where does your learning align with employer expectations? Are there areas where your coursework has prepared you well for what employers seek?
    • Gaps: Identify any gaps between what you have learned and what employers expect. Are there areas for further development to better meet these expectations?
