This assignment is intended to assist you in developing your private thoughts, insights and awareness of your own emotional reactions. The papers (3-5 pages) should include personal reactions, reflections, and any insights gained from 1) the reading assignments and 2) any class discussions pertaining to the readings. I encourage you to tie in any outside material (relevant personal experiences, movies, etc.) necessary to demonstrate a deeper level of insight and awareness.

In preparation for this assignment, I strongly recommend that you make notes of your reactions and thoughts while doing reading assignments and having class discussions. Some of the questions that you might want to think about are:

How have you shown bias to others based on race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, age, sexual orientation, social class/status? 

How has the way you grew up impacted your tendency to be biased to people that are different? 

What do you value and how have these values been developed? How might these values impact your work as a clinician? 

How/when do your actions fail to align with what you say you value? What do you do when this happens? 

What personal characteristic(s) would you rather not face? Why? What do such characteristics indicate about the core of who you are? 

When do you feel safe enough to be your true self? Why? 

What keeps you from allowing those in your work/school/professional environment to experience the best of you? 

What are you protecting by not sharing your true self in all (or some) situations and circumstances? 

The evaluation of this assignment will be based on the depth of your responses including the degree of self-reflection, self-exploration, willingness to speak to difficult aspects of self, etc. as well as adherence to rules of APA format, grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. 

for this assignment I want to talk about the struggle of first generation kids. I am coming from a immigrant soviet family and feel the most comfortable in the culture but also hate it and want to get away from it. I would like to talk about how I pushed it away from me until my teen years and now im 23 and I embrace it moree then ever but I believe it is unconsiously due to america fetishizing russian women.
