CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW
This assignment provides the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills of formal testing in a real-world scenario. Through a fictitious case study, you will gain experience in assessment methods including case review and history, interview, and test evaluation and selection.
INSTRUCTIONS
Consider the following scenario:
Justin is an 11-year-old boy repeating 3rd grade this school year. The academic support team at the school has referred Justin to you (the School Psychologist) for a psycho-educational evaluation (testing). The team, including the teacher, is seeking to gather information that can guide them in implementing effective support and strategies for Justin. He struggles in reading, currently reading at a 1st-grade level. His teacher reports that Justin seems to often be distracted and off-task in the classroom. Justin’s parents have expressed to the teacher that he is becoming more and more reluctant to come to school.
Interview: What are 3 questions you would like to ask the team, teacher, and/or parents to help you better understand Justin’s challenges? Include your rationale for each question. (min. 150 words)
Case History: What are 3 areas of information you would want to check/review in Justin’s school record? Include a rationale for your interest in each of these areas. (min. 150 words)
Assessment/Testing (min. 450 words/150 words per test): Review the MMY database in the LU Online library and locate 3 tests that would be appropriate for administration to Justin. Keep in mind your purpose in testing (the concerns of the school team). For each of the 3 tests, include:

What does the test measure?
Is the test considered reliable? Valid?


Relevance (What do you expect this test to tell you about Justin? How will this
information help the school team in providing enhanced instruction and academic
intervention for Justin so that he can be more successful in school?)


Note: You will need to expand your research on the tests beyond the MMY in order to
thoroughly address all of the above components of the assignment. Utilize only academic, peer- reviewed articles (such as those found in the LU Online library databases).
