Psychology Question
Description
The topic that I choose its #5 (in bold text). Also want to talk about that I’m against kids changing their sexual gender.
——————————————————————————————————————————————————-
Assess the [controversial, hot-button] topics given for this assignment, and choose three (3) out of the five (5) topics that you choose to analyze. You will need to “take a stance”, so to speak, in which you argue either in favor or against these topics.
You must provide at least three (3) arguments to make your point. You must make sure that you back up each argument with relevant and truthful information [cited, empirical articles, or credible news reports, etc.]
- Circumcision should be illegal, similarly to female genital mutilation (FGM).
- The government should not force individuals/businesses to provide services to specific groups of people (relating their sexuality) because of their religious beliefs
- World governments should censor the more degrading (pornographic) sites on the Internet.
- Sexual education should only be taught by parents OR schools should only emphasize abstinence.
- Transgender children should be allowed to have gender affirming care in the following ways
- socially transitioning (i.e., adopting gender-affirming hairstyles, clothing, name, gender pronouns, and restrooms) but NOT medical transitioning.
- socially AND medically transitioning (i.e., puberty blockers, hormone therapy)
- I am against this completely – children should NOT be allowed to socially or medically transition.
Of equal importance, you must cite the sources of information that you use for your arguments. The sources of information that you use must be curated beforehand, that is a credible source and fact-check accordingly.
THIS ASSIGNMENT SHOULD BE A MINIMUM OF FOUR PAGES.
Additional guidelines
- This assignment MUST be formatted in APA 7th edition. This means having a title page and reference section – no abstract is needed.
- Introduction paragraph: You will briefly explain the relevance of three topics you chose out of the five topics assigned, and how it is affecting peoples’ lives in the United States today.
- The following sections, or the body of your essay should be chunked by topic, with each subheading being a topic.
- For instance, for the first topic you chose to address (i.e., the right to get an abortion should be regulated at the state level), you will first explain the current legality of this topic (e.g., is abortion regulated at the federal or state level at this moment in time?) in the country.
- After explaining the legality of the issue, you will immediately delve right in your arguments: three arguments in favor or three arguments against.
- At the end of the essay, you should have one introductory paragraph, three topic paragraphs, and one concluding paragraph where you will reflect on the research you necessarily had to conduct for this essay and whether you found any information that went against your beliefs and whether you found it credible or not/made you waver in your position.
- On a separate page, you will have your references section.
NOTE: Your title page and references are NOT part of the minimum four page requirements of this assignment.
Avoiding Misinformation in Online News ReportsLinks to an external site.:
-
- Discard articles with sensationalized headlines (typically with shocking claims, ALL CAPS, exclamation marks!!!!!!)
- Be wary of unusual formatting, multiple misspellings, grammatical mistakes. It might not seem like a big deal, but reputable, credible sources of information really take this seriously.
- If the story or report comes from an organization that you are unfamiliar with, check their “About” section.
- Inspect the dates, timelines that make little sense, links that mimic established sources.
- Look at other pieces of information – is this the only news sources that reports this story? Be very skeptical if you can only find the piece of information in just that single link.
