Intro to Psychopathology infographic

Psychopathology topics are often found in popular magazines, websites, Instagram posts, TikToks, etc. They can be great
sources of information; however, it is important to be able to make sure the information is accurate. Accurate information about
these topics can be helpful. Inaccurate information can be harmful. The purpose of this assignment is to learn more about a
topic related to psychopathology and work on honing your skills in being able to determine if information you are finding in these
sources is reliable. You will do so by researching scholarly sources and assessing if what you are seeing in a popular media post
is in line with what research has shown on that topic.
Students will create an infographic comparing and contrasting a scholarly, peer-reviewed article and an article from a popular
media platform (TikTok, Instagram, website, magazine, etc.).
Infographic will include:
• A brief summary of the popular media
• A brief summary of the scholarly article
• Compare and contrast information covered in the scholarly article and the popular media
Be specific in your summaries. Show what you learned from the article and popular media. In order to receive full credit for your
summaries do not simply write “The journal article covered the definition of the disorder, signs, symptoms and treatment.”
Explain: tell what definition was given, what signs and symptoms did they list, what are treatment options the article discussed.
Summary should also include what the underlying purpose of the media and article are. What are they trying to tell you, teach
you, or convince you of?
Guidelines for Infographic:
• Content and design must be easy to understand, read and follow. It should be written professionally and free of
grammatical errors and typos.
• Must be written in student’s own words or if using direct quotes, they must be properly cited in the infographic and
reference section.
• Any direct quotes should be short in length and limited in number.
o No more than 2 direct quotes may be used.
• Make sure to cite on the infographic and include a reference section. If the infographic does not include a reference
section, a grade of 0 will be given for the assignment.
