| Continue to work on drafting or revising subsections of Section 1 based on your Chair’s feedback. At this stage, you are ready to begin outlining and organizing your literature review. You should have already identified useful literature from the development and statement of the problem. This week, you will use those sources to help you develop an outline for your literature review. You may also refer back to work from your content and research courses if the topics are similar.A literature review in an applied project is not the same as a theoretical dissertation. While the functional steps for conducting the literature review are similar, the desired focus is different. In applied research, there is less emphasis on theoretical foundations and historical perspectives and more emphasis on framing the conditions of the identified problem within its context.Creating a mental image of an approach may help you to compose your outline. Imagine you are watching a nature show about bacteria on television. To begin with the first image is of the whole Earth. As the narrator begins to speak, the camera begins to pan down its focus. The camera then moves its focus from the whole Earth, to a continent, to a country, to a state, to a city, to a park, to a bird in the park, to the bacteria on the bird. As you develop your literature review, you want a similar top down approach for the organization of your literature to the identification and framing of your identified problem.Develop your top-down outline of your research by identifying four to five topical headings for organizing your literature. Once you document your topical headings, you will then add organizational subheadings that fall under each identified area.Length: Follow the guidance of your Chair and your ADE Proposal and Manuscript Template (school-specific).References: All citations must have corresponding references in correct APA format. These references eventually will be included in the References section of the completed ADE Proposal and Manuscript Template (school-specific).
