Chapter 10: Communication and Family Developmental Stresses

Using the format provided, you will explain the topic, describe research that has been done to advance our knowledge of the topic, and apply what is known about the topic to everyday life. The presentation should be 15 – 20 minutes in length.

Overview of the topic: Briefly but thoroughly explain the topic using our textbook and other
sources.

Research Application Article: Choose and briefly but thoroughly review a scholarly research article from a communication journal that addresses your topic. Explain in detail how the research was done, the research methodology (or methodologies), what or who was studied, and the conclusions. You can make use of the articles suggested in your textbook or locate more current articles.

Discussion: Describe how this topic plays out in everyday life and how it relates in some way to the journal article you have reviewed. Then lead the class in a brief (5 minutes or less) discussion about your topic. Create at least two discussion questions that will get the class engaged in your topic.

**Along with your presentation, prepare and submit to a one-page handout for the class that covers the material you talk about in your presentation, including properly documented sources. Be sure to put your discussion questions on your handout (see template).**
