Instructions for Country Project Step 1, Step 2, and Step 3
By end of this week, you will receive a country code which will be posted to the Student Country Assignment List Page. Locate your name and country code then go to the Country Code Chart page to see what country assigned to you. After you know the country for your project, read ALL the information under “Country Research Project Instructions” in Canvas. During the semester, you are required to complete three country project steps:
Country Project – Step 1: Colonial History and Political Context
Country Project, Step 2: Economy
Country Project Step 3: Art and Culture
For you to do well on the country project assignments, you must address all the tasks in the grading rubrics. The grading rubric for Country Project Step 1 has five main tasks:
1. Basic information about your country of study
2. Colonial history of your country of study
3. Current political context
4. Conclusion
5. Other requirements
The grading rubric for Country Project Step 2 has seven main tasks:
1. Currency
2. Major economic features
3. Economic policies
4. Basic economic conditions
5. Technology
6. Conclusion
7. Other requirements
The grading rubric for AFR 110N Introduction to Contemporary Africa Country Project Step 3 has four main tasks:
1. Colonial impact on art and culture: How does the art and culture of your country of study reflect colonial impact?
2. Leading/notable influences on art and culture and their works (identify and discuss 2 writers, 2 artists, 2 filmmakers, and 2 musicians)
3. Conclusion
4. Other requirements
To be as fair and objective on grading as possible, each Main Task and its Component Tasks in the grading rubrics are assigned specific points. Therefore, follow the grading rubrics very closely because your grade will be based on these tasks in the rubrics. Your document should be a Microsoft Word document in “doc” or “docx” format.

Provide information in the sequential order of the stipulated tasks in the grading rubrics starting with Main Task 1 and ending with the Conclusion. Do not forget to fulfill Other Requirements. Do not give one-sentence responses, instead write clear logical paragraphs addressing each listed task in the grading rubrics in sequential order of the Tasks i.e. starting with the first task and ending with the conclusion. At a minimum, the number of paragraphs should be the number of Main Task. That will make it easier for you and the instructor to evaluate if you covered all the main and component tasks in the rubric.Late assignments will not be accepted; please submit your work on time. Excuses for late submissions should come before the deadline and not after, except for extenuating circumstances (events/issues beyond your control; instructor may request evidence in such cases).
Please note that you are supposed to:
1. Make sure you write on the country you were assigned. You will get a zero if you write on a different country from the one you were assigned.
2. Write your step in Microsoft Word doc or docx; single spaced, 12-point font. Do not use PowerPoint, pages or pdf files. Focus on producing a Word document that directly addresses the information requested in the grading rubrics.
3. On the first page of your document, write your first and last name, the country name, the Country Step and Content title (e.g. Ephraim Govere, Zambia, Country Project Step 1: Colonial History and Political Context. Then start writing the body of your project starting on the second page.
4. Address each Main Task and Component Task on the grading rubric in the order in which the tasks are listed on the rubric.
5. Use subheadings to separate major sections of the assignment tasks. Main subheadings should be based on the Main Tasks and you may include sub-subheadings based on Components of the Task. Thus, at a minimum, you must have a distinct paragraph for each Main Task section in the rubric. Having more paragraphs is better to separate task components. Note that Main Task and its Component Tasks have specific allocated points. Therefore, distribute your effort accordingly. Tasks with more points require more information. But remember, the information you provide should be closely related to the tasks in the rubrics.
6. Provide a list of references on the last page of your document and each reference should be correctly cited in the body of your document following the APA in-text citation style. Note that even though we require APA citation style, this only applies to references and in-text citation. You do not have to have a running head, you should not double space your document, or do other detailed APA formats except in-text citation and reference list.
7. Insert page numbers (right bottom) in your document.
8. Submit your Project Steps through TURNITIN before the deadlines (read the instruction on submitting Country Project Assignments and The Turnitin Similarity Requirements Rubric.
9. Submit your assignment before the deadline. You will get a zero for not submitting an assignment.
From experience, to get an ‘A’ grade, you must put greater effort and cover all the Task Components in a detailed logical manner and in the order the tasks are listed in the grading rubric. Normally, it takes no less than three single spaced content to address the tasks in detail.

Use of Sources (worth a maximum of 20% of the total points). Zero points:  Student failed to include citations and/or references. Or the student failed to submit a final paper. 5 out 20 points:  Sources are seldom cited to support statements and/or format of citations are not recognizable as APA 6th Edition format. There are major errors in the formation of the references and citations. And/or there is a major reliance on highly questionable. The Student fails to provide an adequate synthesis of research collected for the paper. 10 out 20 points:  References to scholarly sources are occasionally given; many statements seem unsubstantiated.  Frequent errors in APA 6th Edition format, leaving the reader confused about the source of the information.
