Analysis Essay

Description

1.) Choose one reading from Week 1, one from Week 2, one from Week 3, and one from Week 4. Your essay should analyze (compare, contrast, explore, evaluate, discuss) how each of these readings uses “faith,” “reason,” and “imagination” . You may include some of your personal reactions too and reflections on the readings, but most of your essay should be analysis of the assigned readings.

2.) Your essay should explicitly engage all three of our main themes (faith, reason, and imagination) in some way at some point in your essay (but not all three for every reading).

3.) Your essay should demonstrate that you are engaging with the ideas and that you are thinking critically about the issues. For each of your four chosen documents, please include in your essay one very specific, concrete example from today’s world that you compare and contrast with your reading/excerpt. Excellent papers will use an introduction, topic sentences, and conclusion to make an academic argument (using a main claim or thesis) about why or how these readings are significant for you and/or human society.

4.) You should support your ideas with at least one quotation from each of the readings (cited with author, title, date, and page number).

5.) Use the first person “I/me/my,” but keep in mind that this essay is a formal piece of academic writing, so it should be different in style, format, and tone from the informal, personal, and reflective writing.
