Annotated Research

Description

ast week, I asked you to consider two (2) separate topics that you felt were both appropriate for a research essay. These topics needed to represent a dilemma, disagreement, or controversy between people on either side of the debate.

Now, you will choose from those two topics to pick the one (1) topic you believe is the best topic to use for your first paper.

In order to understand both sides of the debate, you need to research both sides from primary or secondary sources — so, you need to research what each side says about themselves.

For this post, you will need to collect information about your topic and follow this format:

PART 1:
1. Research 3 separate sources for one side of your topic.

2. Research 3 separate sources for the other side of your topic.

–> by this point, you will have six (6) sources total for your paper.

For EACH source, in your post, you need to do the following for all six (6) sources/entries:
– Write the author, title, publication, date of the article or information, and URL (web address) in basic MLA formatting;
Last name, First name. “Title of the Article Goes Here.” The Publication. Date it was published. .

For example:

Lenharo, Mariana. “Blood and Silicon: New Electronics-Cooling System Mimics Human Capillaries.” Scientific American. 9 September 2020.

– Then, pull out two (2) quotes from that article; after each article, you need to write a one (1) sentence summary of the quote in your own words. After that, write 1-2 sentences explaining how you use this quote; which side of your topic will it support, and why?

EXAMPLE ENTRY:

Source #1:

Lenharo, Mariana. “Blood and Silicon: New Electronics-Cooling System Mimics Human Capillaries.” Scientific American. 9 September 2020.

Quote 1: “In this novel approach, the microchannel network—whose architectural design was inspired by the human circulatory system—was built within the semiconductor itself, not attached to it afterward” (Lenharo).

Scientists have designed a new way to circulate information in a cell that mimics how the human body circulates blood. This idea supports the fact that robots could one day have a circulatory system like humans, which would help robots overtake humankind. People who fear a robot uprising will use the example of this technology to show that humans should fear and try to stop robots.

Quote 2: “On average, 30 percent of the energy used by data centers goes into cooling. His team’s paper contends that this expenditure could potentially drop significantly by adopting the new approach” (Lenharo).

This researcher wants data centers to use his technology to help them save money on cooling the facilities. His argument here is financial, which shows the researcher wants people to see a long-term value in incorporating this technology; this idea promotes the side that wants to use robot technology to improve the world.

Source #2 … —> Follow the same format as above, but with a new source;

You are collecting all of this information for two major reasons:
You need to show me that you can summarize a source and use it as evidence for either side of your topic
You will use all of the information in this post to help you write your first draft; the more effort you put into this assignment, the more you will have to use in your paper.
