1. The Brief/Scope: This brief will incorporate the world of work by assimilating the context of a media symposium. A media symposium is a public meeting about advancements in media in which people who have vast knowledge about the topic and give presentations. As a future media practitioner, who has a qualification within the fields of media and fashion, you will most likely be invited to present or attend such an event in the near future as part of your corporate persona.
Due to the global pandemic, this year’s symposium will be digital, and all participants must send submissions of their presentations.
For your first media symposium, you will be tasked to complete the presentation.
THE IMPACT OF DIGITAL MEDIA ON THE FASHION FILM INDUSTRY.

You must adhere to the formal presentation format (of introduction, body and conclusion),.
PART B: The Fashion Film as an extension of Fashion Photography
The introduction must cover the following (allocate 1 minute for each discussion point):
a. Compare and contrast the fashion film to fashion photography, and how fashion photography has evolved.
b. Provide a brief discussion of all the digital components (from the fashion film) that you researched as part of your analysis. c. Provide a brief outline of the fashion in your selected fashion, i.e. identify and discuss whether fashion is presented as a character or as action.
Body of your presentation should refer to the following: (allocate a maximum of 6 minutes)
1. Discuss the efficacy of the moving image in comparison to the still image, i.e. compare and contrast fashion films to fashion photography.
2. Review your selected fashion film by discussing the following points and by stating if you believe each point to be successful or enjoyable:
• The story (narrative)
• The clothing
• Make-up
• Characters
• Music /Dialogue
• Camera shots
Conclusion: (allocate 30 seconds – 1 minute conclude this section)
Conclude by outlining whether or not you believe that your selected fashion film achieved what it set out to achieve.
Guidelines for your consideration:
• Ensure that your presentation is professionally planned, and your recording is clear.• If you are using slides ensure that you consider the design and legibility.
• Check your spelling and grammar
• Reference sources and images appropriately
• Use subheadings to guide your presentation
• Include visual cues from the selected fashion film to enhance your presentation

• Understand the interdependence of the fashion industry on fashion media, particularly digital media;
• Use numerous sources to formulate and substantiate an opinion on the success of a defined fashion film.
• Evaluate techniques used by media to target specific segments of their market through curated fashion content.
• Present research in the form of audio-visual communication.
• Adhere to professional and industry-related conventions of visual presentations.
• Explain the significance of fashion films as a mode of marketing.
• Compile a comprehensive fashion film review through closely following the given criterion.
• Differentiate between fashion films, traditional commercials and fashion photography.
• Discuss and defend the use of visual aids to code a marketing message in a fashion film through exploring the narrative element, fashion element, the characters, the make-up element and the music/dialogue.
• Evaluate the success of a fashion film as a marketing/ promotional tool.
Students are required to reference every consulted source using the Harvard (Author-Date) referencing style as stipulated in the Referencing Guide 2020.
 A detailed reference list must be included at the end of the assignment. Failure to do so will constitute Plagiarism Level 4 – Copyright Violation which will result in 1st year = -30%.
 The content of the assignment must include in-text referencing wherever applicable. Failure to do so will constitute Plagiarism Level 4 – Copyright Violation which will result in 1st year = -30%.
 Any form of graphic depiction your evidence will be accepted (magazine cuttings, printed images or newspaper clippings, etc.). All images and advertisements that are included in the assessment evidence should also be properly referenced. Failure to do so will constitute Plagiarism Level 4 – Copyright Violation which will result in 1st year = -30%.
The assignment must be between 10 – 15 minutes long and in the form of a video/ audio presentation.
