Begin M4A1 Memo: Group Case Analysis 1
In this week, you will start working ahead for your first Group Case Analysis. Your first Case Analysis is due in Module 4.
For this case analysis, please read the Layoffs in the Public Sector case given below. This scenario and its accompanying attachments will serve as the factual basis for your analysis. While you are welcome to use additional resources, you are not required to do so.

For this assignment, you will be completing a case analysis by working in groups. The groups have been assigned by your instructor and are posted in the Discussion Board under the “Group Assignments” thread. You will work in these groups to prepare both this case analysis and another case analysis that will be assigned later in the course. While it is up to the individual groups to organize themselves and coordinate how to complete the assignment, for this module, you should introduce yourselves to each other and begin to discuss the assignment.
Overview:
In this exercise, your group should assume the role of the Human Resources Generalists who are responsible for providing advice and human resources support to the Office of Philanthropy at Santa Anita State University. The VP of Marketing and the Director of the Special Communications team have asked your group to provide them with a memo analyzing the issues involved in this situation and to make a recommendation regarding what they should do.
In your memo to the VP of Marketing and the Director of the Special Communications team, you must answer the following questions:
1. Should they hire Ms. Stewart for the coordinator job or lay her off and recruit qualified applicants for the new position? You must identify a clear priority. Justify your choice and the tradeoffs associated with this choice.
2. What are the major risks and problems facing the Office of Philanthropy if they selected your recommended course of action? How would you prioritize these challenges in the short term and in the long term? Justify your choices and the tradeoffs associated with this choice.
Assignment Details:
This case analysis will require each group to prepare and submit a memo detailing your group’s analysis and recommendations. Note that you should submit only one memo for the entire group. Your grade for this assignment will consist of two components:
(1) an instructor-assigned grade on the memo (90%); and
(2) an anonymous peer review completed by your fellow group members (10%).
Each group member will receive the same grade for the memo portion of the assignment, unless unusual circumstances necessitate.
The top of the memo should include To, From, Date, and Subject lines. The memo should be addressed to the VP of Marketing and the Director of the Special Communications team and include each team member’s names, the date submitted, and a one-line summary of the memo within the subject line. In addition, the memo must begin with a detailed summary of your recommendations and analysis. The memo should be divided into multiple sections and each must include a meaningful section header, typed in bold.
The memo should be 5–7 pages in length (excluding any reference pages), double spaced, use Times New Roman font, use 1-inch margins, and be numbered on each page. You may use the text and other outside sources, though you are not required to do so. If you choose to use any sources to support your arguments, please ensure that you are citing each appropriately. All in-text citations and the reference page should follow American Psychological Association (APA) style (6th edition) formatting guidelines.
