. Essay 1
Conflict is the behavior where individuals differ in actions, thoughts, and feelings. It is a big part of us. It is a thorn in the flesh, and overcoming it takes a lot of strength. In fiction most literary works have both internal conflict (individual self) and external conflict (individual v individual, society, or nature). Additionally, one can often find that a character’s internal conflict is linked to an external one. Choose two of the readings we discussed in which both an external and internal conflict are evident to you and write a five page essay on this.
Literary works ( choose two).
Kate Chopin’s “Desiree’s Baby”
Charlotte Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper”
William Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily”
Criteria:
Your introduction must briefly summarize the story.
Your thesis must be the last sentence of your introduction. Your thesis must reveal your overall position. Be sure to tie together the specific elements of fiction the author uses to convey a specific theme through your preferred critical lens.
You must cite a portion of the story in each body paragraph.
You must use at least ONE supplemental source for this essay. You can use the reading guides or one of the articles I have uploaded in the lectures.Alternatively, you may do some extra research, especially on the different schools of literary criticism, specific interpretations of the stories, or biographical information about the authors. You can quote or paraphrase the source(s) to provide background information about the author, historical context, or to provide further literary analysis. As this is not a research paper, please limit extra sources to two only.

In your conclusion, don’t merely reiterate your points. Be sure to also push forward your argument in some way.
Your essay must follow MLA format in your in-text citations and works cited page. Be sure to include ALL of the sources you use on the works cited page.
